Due to the unforseen and horribly inconsistent weather that 2012 has produced for Central and Northern Queensland, it has not been an overly poetic season for Drag racers and fans throughout this – normally – beautiful part of the globe.
Palmyra Dragway has suffered, producing only few events of its normally busy season this calender year. To make matters worse, King of The Street had to be rescheduled at the last-minute, allowing only a minority of competitors enough time to attend.
Spirits were not dampened, and some seriously quick cars were still able to show their pace, despite only minor preparations.
Crowds were down with advertising unable to give forewarning of the upcoming event, leaving the best seats to any who braved the hot sun.
Drivers appeared to be relishing the chance to take a pass down the only ANDRA approved dragway (and soon to be the only dragway) north of Gladstone.
I would like to personally take the time to thank those currently supporting Palmyra Dragway. The Officials and Staff – volunteering or otherwise – put in a lot of hard work and make sacrifices that allow us to continue enjoying the sport in its current position and are not recognised to the extent they should.
That’s it for now. Keep an eye peeled on Palmyra Dragway’s Facebook Page for information on upcoming events.
